The District recognizes that learning takes place in a variety of situations, environments and locations and acknowledges online education as an appropriate instructional delivery system for some students. Online education enhances and expands current course offerings and provides another appropriate alternative to meet the learning needs of a diverse population of students.

Location and Schedule: Students may work on their online course at any location and at any time as long as they have dependable internet access. Students are able to access their schedule that explains what activities and assessments must be completed each week. Though the program is meant to be flexible and convenient, the student is responsible to complete tasks by the stated deadlines. District truancy procedures will be followed if a student is not active in their course for more than 5 school days and/or if they are more than 20% behind in their course.
Teacher and Curriculum: Every online student has an online teacher who is a Wisconsin certified teacher, with about 95% of the teachers from our school district. Some courses use locally developed curriculum delivered through Schoology. Other courses use nationally developed curriculum delivered usually through Buzz.
Application, Enrollment, and Orientation Process: See the Getting Started tab located to the left.
Working Sessions: Any student who is participating in the Online Learning Center for the first time will be required to attend working sessions during the trial period. Students are not required to attend any further proctored working sessions unless they get behind in the course.
OLC Coach: Every online student has an assigned coach who helps the student stay on track to be as successful as possible in their online learning experience and assists with any issues that might arise.
History of the OLC: The OLC began in the fall of 2010 when it was decided by a district technology committee that we needed to offer a virtual online learning experience for some of our students. The first semester, in the spring of 2011, we had 31 students. Now, we have grown to over 300 students in a given semester. Since the beginning, we have accommodated different levels of involvement, from part-time with just one online class, to combination of multiple online classes with multiple face-to-face classes, to full-time online enrollment. Our full-time enrollments in grades 7-12 have been anywhere from 5 students in a given semester to 235 students (spring 2021 during the pandemic). In the fall of 2022, we had about 21 full-time OLC students in grades 7-12. (Our other district PK-12 full-time online students, attend school with our partner, Rural Virtual Academy (RVA).)
